Bloomfield is a city in Nelson County, Kentucky. The town was founded and named in 1817 by Dr. John Bemiss. The name is said to be taken from the maiden name of his wife Miss Bloomer and his son-in-law Mr. Merifield.
A Tobacco Festival, culminating in a tobacco-spitting contest was a major event in this town for many years, reflecting its history as a tobacco market for the area. It's also home to the Bloomfield Mill, which ground corn and wheat meal for local farmers.
